Subsonic .22 shells make very little noise if you have critters that need to go and you can get them at most gun shops. I made a small silencer out of a plastic bottle taped to the barrel and you can't hear a thing. Works well in the areas where you can't have the neighbors hearing any shots in the middle of the night.

I live in the country and have many acres of farm land around me. Seem to have racoons, skunks, and woodchucks out the wazoo. I planted a small garden this year and the old farmer who helped me with it told me that if I had a problem with racoons eating my sweet corn to let him know and he would bring over his "tonic" to use on them. I usually just let them be and keep them away from the house by limiting where they could settle in at. He said if you want to get rid of them and do it quick just mix some fly bait with some pepsi and it will drop them almost instantly. He said the dogs and cats will leave it alone, but the racoons are attracted to the sweet taste and the fly bait will drop them within feet of the tonic.
