Trailer tires have more body in the side walls to protect it against curb scuffing and flex in tight turns. Lt tires are more tread agressive then ST tires that is not necessary. You need the sidewall performance. Just like smokin said, you will be a little lighter in the wallet with no more of a better tire.

This "Trailer Tires 101" document is, to me, a better source than the FMVSS which, again, gives the legal minimum requirements.
So......you believe what the Carlise tire saleman who is trying to "up sell? you and the information published by the govenemt agency responsible for writing the specifications to which all tires must conform is short sighted, inaccurate and misleading? http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/ru...on or a judicial ruling to back up the claim.

I'm not knocking radial tires for any trailer, but 2 years ago I had a blow-out with a radial and the steel belting inside the tire wrapped itself so tightly around the axle it took an hour of cutting and unwinding to get it all out, all in 98 degree weather on a hot road. I have bias tires now and are slightly over-rated for my rig.
