Last year was the first year I kept my boat in the water rather than trailering. After a few weeks (maybe even days) a brown slime accumulated right abobe the water line above where the bottom paint ended. This year I was going to make the waterline higher by applying bottom paint a little higher.

Does the fiberglass need to be preped? It's a '78 Grady White........not too new, but was wondering if the fiberglass needed to be roughed up some.

You mean you can change the waterline on your boat just by repainting? Silly me, I thought it would involve some kind of weight and balance manipulations. Wouldn't it be easier to just move the boat into shallower water? er, deeper water? ...oh crap...sorry...never mind...

rough up the gelcoat a bit with fine sandpaper. clean well and let dry. run new tape and paint. should be fine. i wouldn't raise the height too much, though. you're still going to get a slime line at that level. and lowering the line is next to impossible.
