Raising / Lowering Outboards on Transom

Can any of you explain what raising or lowering an outboard by one hole or two will do to the performance of a boat. will it keep the bow up or down ??? Any information on this would be of great interest.. Thanks for your very informative input to this site...

Whybee;<br />Lowering will keep the bow down, and vise versa. I have found to maximize the speed, I raise the motor until the bow starts to porpoise, and then drop it down one hole or slot. <br />Hope this helps, <br /><br />Alvin
