To all that can help.

i have a 17' cajun with 150merc. The motor is mounted all the way. Will i gain any speed by moving the motor up a few holes? What are the affects if i do move it up? Any good or any bad affects?

Re: raising motor

Potential of more speed due to reduced drag.
You might have to change to a 4 or 5 blade prop.
You'll blow-out easier in turns.
You'll suck air easier in rough water.
Go too high and you risk burning out your water pump and overheating the motor. (Upper water intake holes can be plugged off to prevent that.)
You should consider getting a water pressure gauge.

Re: raising motor

If the engine is mounted directly to the transom-no jackplate-I don't think you'll get it high enough (with a good prop) to cause any problems.
It should be raised 1 hole at a time and test..if it's on the transom, your best results may be in the third set of holes down, just have to test and see.

Re: raising motor

thanks guys for the advise, will try moving and see what that does. I have a pressure gauge on the dash so i will watch that closly to make sure i am getting enough pressure. As far as blowing out of the water i think the ss 19p will still get me out and going, plus i am planning on drilling some holes in it to help even more. Kept you posted incase i need more help.

Re: raising motor

Careful on hole-size...you can make it blow out bad if you get'em too big...start small, like 1/8".
