Re: Ramp fees!

In western NY, most of the State Park launch sites are $7/day, or $65/season. Most of the town docks are free, and many of the private marina run launches are $5. Yeah, free would be nice, but even at $7, it's a small price to pay to have access to the water (and decent restrooms at many locations).

Re: Ramp fees!

Bonz - youre old stomping grounds on the fox river is $20 pretty much at any marina including up in the chain of lakes. How come you dont like Lake Delavan? Right now with the river closed I have not option but to do L.D.

Basically because of the traffic to Delavan plus every time I've gone past the ramp off Hwy 50 it is packed.

If it wasn't for the Chain usage fee ($80.00 + $40.00 nonresident) I'd still boat the Chain even with the unGodly amount of boat traffic it sees on the weekends.

Someone else brought up a point about daily fees that now I question. If I pay my $7.00 and launch then drive the trailer home because the ramp/park closes at 10pm and I stay out all night would I then have to pay again the next day when I come back to retrieve my boat?

Then I'm beginning to think that at these busier ramps that require a fee then I believe they should also require a Harbor Master to keep order and control. Though it's nice to see some of us are still getting on the water for FREE!

Here on Lake Lanier 3 minutes from the house is $30 / year or $3 / day. Their are a couple of free ramps, but they are disappearing slowly. Two free ramps / parks starting charging an entrance fee this year. 100+ ramps on the 38,000 acre lake.

All the ramps that put into the local rivers and the lake I go to (Lake Moultrie) are free as long as there's parking. Parking is typically only a problem for the lake ramps - the river/creek ramp lots are as big or bigger and have 1/10th the traffic.

The nearby ramps into the coastal/salt waters are typically a $5.00 fee to put in. It's been a long time since I've been out there though.

Re: Ramp fees!

Only ramp I pay for is one that is in a park on Lake Minnetonka - Costs $30 a year for the hangtag or $5? a day. Otherwise the ramps on all the other lakes and river we use are free.

The ramps may be free, but our 10,000 public lakes are under threat because rich local lakeshore property owners are succeeding in turning our Minnesota lakes and rivers into their private property.

The biggest threat is from lakeshore owners cajoling local politicians into marking off vast No Parking zones for miles in any direction of the boat ramp. The obvious reason is that the rich lakeshore owners want to limit the numbers of the great unwashed lower classes that can use their lakes. They can't stop us from launching, but they have succeeded in stopping us from parking which has the same effect.

The shores of many lakes are cluttered with huge marina-style docks housing multiple watercraft and on popular lakes like Minnetonka the property owners are actually running illegal and unlicensed private marinas by renting out dock space. All of this dock space is built on public property (the bottom of the lake), but the DNR seems unwilling to stop them, again probably because these wealthy lakeshore owners buy the ability to do whatever they want through local politicians who are only too willing to keep the "outsiders" out.

Minnesota desperately needs a law the halts all state highway and road funds and grants to any county, township, or city that posts no parking signs on a public road near a public water access in order to deny the public the right to use state property. The only exception is if that local agency can prove through an extended and independent study (conducted at thier expense, but overseen by the DNR) that proves there is an overwhelming issue of public safety.

We have a ton of free public ramps. I kinda wish they would convert some of them to pay sites, it might keep away the idiots. I would pay a little bit to not have to deal with the crowds and have enough parking for all the tow rigs. As it is now on weekends most of the public ramps do not have enough parking and you end up parking out on the street, and have to huff it a mile back to your boat.

Be VERY careful what you ask for. You might well get it and you're 100% wrong. It won't concentrate the idiots, you'll just pay more to lauch with them.

Place we use here 'Carney Island' (obviously not with my boat yet)..fishing, swimming area, picnicking, brand new boat ramp and docks, State owned. $5.00 a car up to 8/persons is the only fee at the front gate, boat or no boat

I see that same thing happening here in SE Wisconsin. Large 2 story One Family homes on the lake yet they have piers with 6-10 boats docked or on lifts and then on the weekends there are 8-12 cars in the drive and all with Out-of-State plates. Yet the DNR will not allow my Subdivision to put up a community dock at the end of our Dead End street. Even though 20 years ago there was one there and we have currant residents with old pictures to prove it. Our village doesn't have a dispute with it and would only require of us to form a Home Owners Assc. and carry liablity insurance. DNR states it would infringe on Riparian Rights!

Apologise for digressing off topic! But the end of our road is the 1 free launch on this lake which again has No Parking available.

Re: Ramp fees!

$10 a time or $125 a year where I go out of Bordentown on the Delaware. The ramp is starting to really annoy me this year though. Low tide means it's almost unusable. I think next year I'ma shoot down the river 5 mins to Florence...It's $60 a year and the ramp looks MUCH nicer.

Re: Ramp fees!

On the lake I usually go to in NJ Lake Hopatcong, at my Marina it cost 25 dollars to Launch and retrieve. Not the best Ramp compared to what I have seen also, but it works. Round Valley Reservoir is free with a fishing license.

When I was at Lake George in NY this past week they have I believe one free public launch all the way at the top of the lake but all the other ramps are at Marina which most charge 25 for Launch and retreival.

I haven't been to any others yet, but plan on trying the Atlantic Highlands one day and I know that is 25 as well. I hear it is a zoo over there though.

$25 a trip?

Daaaaaaaaaaaang! That's usually more than I spend on gas for a day out...

We paid our $125 for the year at Bordentown in April, and I think I've definitely gotten my money out of it. about 15 trips so far, and I ain't ready to slow down yet!

I have my boat slipped at Lake Hopatcong this year but plan to trailer it alot next year. Trying to find alternatives to there as 25 bucks a pop could get expensive. :) Hence my pm to you Sub. :)

25 Dollars at lake george I can see as most go there for the week anyway so you pay that one time shot for the week. No biggy.

Atlantic highlands... well again that place is a zoo. :)

Re: Ramp fees!

Thank you all! I found this very enlightening the broad spectrum of pricing fees. In light of what some of you are paying I guess I should quit complaining about the Fees here in Wisconsin and appreciate more the one I can find that are Free.

Thanks again for playing along, Happy, Safe boating!
