with that much of the flange broken there is no way to guarantee the bellows will stay attached to the gimbal housing

i would never recommend anyone run their boat that way, will it work?? maybe, probably - but your risking causing more damage to other parts of your boat

OP, I'm assuming that you are changing your bellows, when you get the old one off, maybe a few more pics of the area in question?

I had to rescue a fella a month ago whose bellows had slipped off the flange first trip into the season. His winter overhaul obviously didn't go to plan! Water was pouring into that boat pretty darn fast and sank the boat within minutes. He was lucky to be over a intertidal sandbank and able to retrieve his boat later, but it sure put the willies up me about having a 5 inch hole in the boat protected by a dab of glue and a jubilee clip.

Which bellows came off? As I can make sense of it, if it leaks through the upper bellows it will only ruin the ujoint and so on not enter boat too fast, since drive shaft has o ring seal.

At least the lower part is still there, as I trim up that's the area under most pressure right?

Worst case, I will tear it all apart and fix it right, as I have a 14 aluminum boat to get me through the summer lol. But after working on this boat for a year now and ready to launch, and then this, its mind blowing. But if I didn't have bad luck, then I wouldn't have any at all lol.

OP If it were my boat, and I was wondering about that flange, once I got the bellows off I would probably take it to a mercury repair shop that I trust for their opinion. I have one that I pay cash to for OEM parts, and sometimes give him money for questions that I have.

You're not going to know how bad things are until everything is stripped down and cleaned up....

If the bellows flange and Ujoint seats are OK, (or able to be cleaned up) you can knock out this repair in a day, maybe an afternoon.

Remove the remaining caps off the bad Ujoint and see how it looks, remove the Ujoint bellows and inspect the flange....

Chop-Chop, the lake is calling :D
