Was under the dash/console of my new to me 1983 Ranger installing a radio today & noticed two black plastic tubes coming out of the steering box, they are about 12" long & 3/8" ID with a slip on cap on each one
Anybody tell me what they are for? I cant see any use but since Forrest Wood/Ranger saw fit to put them there I assume they must serve some purpose:cool:
Thanks

Sounds like the tube for spent steering cable on a rotary helm, (gives the end of the cable someplace clean to go), though usually there?s only one with a capped end. Got dual cable steering?

Re: Ranger 375V Steering Box Question

Your steering is more than likely a cable that makes a single pass around the hub ...... one of those tubes runs to the stern of the boat and the other just protects the cable from goo and dirt. The cab;e is in a U shaped path. If you disconnect the rear at the motor and remove the nut at the help you can get the cable out. If it is not broke ...... don't fix it!
