I don't own a GM product (all Ford). This post is so upset GM owners won't feel left out since there is a Ford rant posting. :D

I have a GMC truck, a Dodge van, and my boat has a Ford engine.....They all run well....The only vehicle that I have owned that was a true POS was a Jeep Grand wagoneer....JK

A new hood because of bad painting? Hasn't GM had serious paint problems for years?

Re: Rants about GM

Had bad luck with gm and now with Ford. I wish I had popped the extra couple of grand for the Nissan Armada instead of the Ford Expedition. Poor engineering, poor build quality, poor service and support. GM had worse build quality, but better engineering (IMHO), and equal support. Live and learn, but I did buy the extended warranty for the Expedition and I think I am going to be glad I did.

I also have a 2005 ford freestyle, which has given me zero problems, but is being discontinued after only a year and a half build cycle. I know why, but when something works I tend to hang on to it. In this day and age, no problems is better than spirited performance everyday.

I have already ranted all over the place on fords gm and jeep, But I just spent the evening on a 1961 mod D7 catapillar . Why cant we make things like that anymore. This old tractor was bought brand new by the present owner and has never ben overhauled. Yea he tends to his upkeep well. Damx It was a pleasure to operate. think of the lost revenue to ford GM and chyrstler if thier cars lasted 44 years.

GM, Ford...imports.. they all make crap some days.
I drive an import car this round, simply because my butt still hurts from the large pole GM shoved up it when the engine came apart in my Pontiac... once the pain subsides, I could try them again...but my current brand is serving me much better so doubt they'll get a chance. My GM experience is that their warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on... They fixed it enough so I could sell the car and run away. Felt sorry for the poor dude that bought it.
I had a bad experience with an import once too, so I go to whatever dealer has a decent service department and is interested in helping me if I have a problem with the materials or workmanship.
I still have my old Chevelle if I need to feel patriotic...
and both my boats are Chevy powered!

because it burns 2x the fuel as a D6R doing the same work...and not too many people want to pull 30 lb. of steering clutches all day... :)

I do not believe that there is a vehicle made that can reliably go 100,000 mile swithout a major repair. By major repair I mean one that costs more than a weeks pay. The domestics go thteir butts whooped int eh 70's by the fuel-efficient and higher quality imports. In the late 80's and early to mid 90's they got their act togeter (somewhat) and made a decent product, and maintained market share. Then they got complacent and in the late 90's and into th enew millenium they started building junk. Teh imports suffer dismal quality in some areas too. Toyota, long the hallmark of quality and durability had 4 cyl's dying with less than 100K on the clock due to engines sludging up. Toyota said it was due to owners lack of maintenance. In actuality it was design.

I will be scared when I have to replace my vehicles. Even as a certified mechainc I have no faith in any brand and therefore fear for my auto buying dollar.

David, I bought an '88 Ford Ranger with 43,000 on it in '89. I drove that truck for eight years. It had 194,000 on it when I got rid of it. It never broke down except one time when an ignition module failed.

I had a '95 Grand Marquis which I bought with 102,000 on it. It had never had the valve covers off---I knew the original owner. It had 180,000 miles on it when I traded it last September---for another Grand Marquis, no less.

I've generally had great luck with American vehicles. I've put over 100,000 on several, including a '76 TransAm.

The worst car I ever had was a VW Beetle.

I figure deep water's right.

Re: Rants about GM

I had a 1991 chevy s10 pickup 2wd. bought it new. Think I payed $7800 for it. 2.8 liter, 5 speed. Pretty much bare. I beat that thing for 9 years. towed way too much, hauled way to much, always heavy on the gas pedal. It was rolled on its side, then it fell back on its wheels. I got out, threw the mirror in the bed, beat the front fender out, started it back up, and took off. countless firelanes, burnouts, not so good boat ramps. I put 220,00 miles on it. Not one body part was not dented or scratched. The interior was shot. Besides the normal brake jobs all I did is change the oil every 3000. Plugs once. The clutch went at 140,000 and had to replace one ball joint. Everything was original ( alt, wp, ect) It ran perfect and burned no oil. The thing was indestructable. Then I came up with the bright idea that it was time to replace it. I ordered a 2000 silverado. 3/4 ton, 6.0 liter. 4 door, heavy duty everything. All options. Even forked out the $40.00 for the factory performance air filter (????). $28,000.... at 38,000 miles the tranny went. took the dealer 4 times to fix it(with rebuilt parts). 45,000 miles. Fuel pressure regulator went. that caused all 4 oxygen sensors to go bad. 60,000 tie rod end. 90,000 flywheel shatters. 95,000 starter, 2 of the centercaps are gone, the gas guage doesnt work, the tailgate wont stay closed and the 2 braided cables on it are busted. the 2 front speakers dont work, The buttons on the radio wore through and now are white where your finger touches them, the door/window seals leak. while going down the freeway you can feel the wind, it knocks in the cold mornings, i am sure theres more. The thing is that I baby that thing. The most I have ever towed is a 16' boat. It has always had the oil changed when due, radiator been flushed twice, lubes with oil changes, air filters, fuel additives, 2 sets of plugs, It still looks like new. I am thinking that when it is time to replace this pos that Maybe I'll get a 71 chevy K10. Nice and simple, cheap to fix, and looks real cool. Just have to find one thats not a pile of rust.

Then again...we don't have a vehicle here newer than 2000. Has it all gone to s*** that badly in five years?

The local anesthesiologist bought the armada, he's had nothing but major problems, major warranty repairs due to component failure. He's had the truck in the shop quite a bit... needless to say, he hates it.
