Congrats on the Switzer, she looks like a nice find.
Thats a sbc for sure. looks like finned alum. vette valve covers, holley carb on possibly alum. intake.
From the looks of the oil intake on the front of the manifold possibly late 60s early 70s.
Those braided hoses dont have an fittings just clamps so be careful of those.
I cant really see the dist but it looks like standard chev. ignition system.
It would be cool if you could find some casting #s on the block so we could figure out what she really is.
I`m looking forward to watching this one get restored. Wish I could stumble on some thing like this.

Engine codes out to a 1969 vette 350. It has engine suffix HW.

The infamous " Vette Motor" Probably 3/4 race cam and 14" pink rods. lol Just kidding she really does look like a find, shes got nice lines and I`ve never seen a transom like that before.

I have no idea what it has internally. But yeah, they are all usually "vette" motors. Except this one is actually stamped HW confirming it. heads turned out to be LT-1 3991492's from 1971 which are real nice heads.

I was able to get the engine started today. Internally everything was clean, well lubricated and looked like new! Even the oil was crystal clear. I didn't run it for too long but it sounded healthy and in good order. Bob Switzer informed me that according to the VIN this boat was number 9 of 12 made and it was constructed in April of 1976. Are there any of the other 12 that have survived?

Lt-1s are great motors , I had one in my 72 monte carlo. Strong runners. 9 of 12 wow she is rare. Might want to check screamandfly.com or perfomanceboat.com those gearheads might be able to put you in touch with other switzer owners.

If anyone is interested, I have a boat very similar looking to this rare find. We are trying to find a serious "Switzer" buyer who appreciates that these are in fact very rare finds.

We have a '74 Switzer Craft, no model number, etc. This is what our title states. It's a metalic /copper toned boat, very sleak in the water!

We have a Merc on ours that needs work, but I did have it in the water last summer and ran it several times.

I found some more info.... My buddy worked at Switzer in the early 80's. his friends dad Bob Koons bought the Switzer boat company from Bob Switzer and his brother... I'm forwarding this thread to my friends...

I'll see if i have any on my camera, otherwise will have to go to where i have it stored. It's identical to your boat, only the paint job is different.

I'd really like to find a buyer for ours due to my wife can't go on it anymore. and we really want to get it to someone who appreciates these!!

I have the boat up in storage, as soon as i can get to it I'll take some photos and post. It's just starting to get nice here. I looked at the pictures I have, of course they were all taken while we were IN the boat...not of it, so i'll have to get some taken. Thank You again,

A quick update:

Looks like the boat is sound enough to move forward with a restore. Transom and stringers are strong (good build Bob!). The engine has been properly recommisioned and runs like a beast. The outdrive is being gone through right now and looks like it is just going to need seals and water pump impeller.

The boat has been vandalised since I bought it, but fortunately it was just spray paint. The culprits who were caught (two of my ex-girlfriends working in tandem, lol) may have to pay restitution which should help fund some of the restoration. I'm going back with original colors and interior patterns. I'm hoping to have it done in time for the July Regatta.

1968 Switzercraft Shooting Star for sale in my neighborhood. About $2K. Found it on Craigslist.
