Re: Ratio for extended Idle

Is there anyone out there that doesn’t fish at least 700 hrs a year???

I guess mine weren’t properly setup. I had a 60hp once that idled smoothly down to 750rpm but the 70s ..they were all pretty shaky under about 900rpm.

The biggest problem, idle-wise, with my last 56 cid 70 was that I couldnt get it to idle lower than 600. All the linkage was at the lowest. It would set there and idle all day (done that) at 600 and could have went lower. Great motor.

Hmmm...I THINK you were joking there...700 hours a year would be 2 hours a day almost every day...or 14 hours a weekend almost every weekend. I think we can safely say that MOST of us don't fish 700 hours a year. :)

We just have to face the fact that, by the hour, this is a very expensive hobby. I marvel every time I see someone selling a boat that is 5 or 6 years old, for $10,000 or more less than they paid for it, and advertising that it has only been used less than a couple hundred hours. I saw one a while back that claimed it had been used 35 hours in 3 years...pretty expensive 35 hours of boat use, if true.

Which is part of the reason I bought an old boat to restore...it still isn't cheap, but it is a lot easier to amortize than the price of a new one. ;)

Just my $0.02 worth,
Joe
