I have a 95 90hp Ocean Pro that makes a rattle or misfire type of sound when I decelerate. Any one seen this before - I am the second owner and have no maintenance history. Could there be something loose in the drive? Acceleration is fine - no noise. Deceleartion with a skier or tube (under load) does not have the noise. Typically occurs from high RPMs 4500 down to 3000rpm. Any ideas are appreciated.

Hi esto99

Make sure your prop is torqued down properly first. Other than that, I have no idea what could be rattling..Maybe others will have an idea...

I've got a 1995 150 - one of two has this problem. posters seem to have ruled out clutch dogs as it never pops out of gear during forward running.

I've been babying it along....

What you are hearing is probably a deceleration knock. When the engine does this, push in the fuel primer, and see if it goes away.

You have a lean condition on deceleration. The primer is adding fuel which will richen the mixture. This condition seem's more noticeable on the latter V-4's. It does'nt seem to harm anything. If the sound goes away, you know where it is coming from.
