Its been a little while since I first posted on here, but I am now rebuilding the power head. Its a 96 model 200 EFI merc, replaced pistons/rings, all bearings, all seals, check valves, bleed lines, and all fasteners, everything is ready to assemble.
I could use a few pointers if anyone has some. I went ahead and bought the sealant kit for the crank case halves. It also has the small cork gasket that seats in the crank case half. A few concerns I have are if I need to put the sealant on both halves, then install the cork gasket, and where else it is important to use the sealer on the block and crank case.
The top and bottom end caps have the thin rubber rings, but do they seal good enough by themselves.
Should i put any type of gasket sealant around the top or bottom end caps, or do I run the sealant right up against them before I join the halves together. This is my first outboard rebuild, but I have rebuilt 2 strokes and I know how important it is to not have any air leaks. This is my only concern, and I could use some input.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks, Mike

hello
buy the merc manual.
it shows how and where to use the sealant. next make sure the vapor seperator is clean. they get nasty with time and cause problems. other than that follow the manual carefully
the merc manual has some very nice pics in it.
good luck and keep posting
