re-assembling....what oil and lube

I have a pre alpha outdrive...is there oil in the top and bottom halfs or just top....and what kind do I use in each....also, what type of packing grease goes in the bell housing when you mount the outdrive...i cleaned the old stuff out cuz it was that OLD and brown and grimey. Is it just a white lithium...im sorry to ask questions a owners manual answers but I just bought boat and have the manual on order at power sports shop...thanx

Though this is not the correct manual, it will give you some insight into how the drive goes together......
Run the cursor over the lettered sections on page seven & click to view the section.....
They are connected through an oil passage.....
The o ring must be replaced every time the upper & lower are split.....
Mercruiser high performance gear lube is what you put in it.....
You must also replace the seals on the fill & vent screws.....
No grease should be in the bellows at all, & definately no water....
Grease the ujoints with ujoint & gimbal bearing grease....
You should also make sure the ujoint bellows are in good shape, if you put a new drive on & they leak you will destroy your new drive in short order.......;)​
