I'm going to rebuck the rivets in another aluminum boat i have purchased . I can vaguely remember my grandfather doing it years a go but as usual i wasn't really paying attention at the time and i'm not sure how he did it . Anyone know where i could read a primer on rebucking or see a video on it ?

Re: re buck this

Maybe a video on You Tube but it is really easy, if you can swing a hammer you have the basics down.

All you need to do is identify the offending rivets, place a dead weight( could be a hammer or any peice of heavy steel) on the outside of the boat and then you whack the rivet once or twice on the inside and you are done, this normally requires 2 people, one in the boat and one outside.

Don't hit the rivet more than twice, you don't want to flatten it too much and 2 good whack will normally do it and use steel hammers, don't think a dead blow or orhter plastic hammer would work.

After you re-buck the rivets you should also apply a coating of gluvit on the rivets and seams

Typically easier if you use a ball peen hammer.
