I decided to remove the outer skin of my 19' Robalo to replace the transom, luckily got into it and the stringers are good. I have my 2 peices of 3/4" ply cut and fit, need to do a final sand of the areas of the boat the transom will be glassed to tomorrow. I plan to coat both peices of ply in resin, use 1.5oz mat on the inside of 1st sheet, 6oz between the two sheets and 1.5 oz on the outside of the second sheet, screw the pieces to the inner skin and the the stringers directly, the attach the outer skin. I left about 1.5 - 2" of glass around the entire transom. Since I am not all that concerned with Cosmetics I was wondering what suggestions anyone had for glassing the seem. I know that I should feather it back to nothing at the joint, but I dont want to comprimise strenght for looks, would it be better if I just sanded the gel coat off the 1.5" - 2" peice remaining and lay my seem material right over it? what should I use for seem material. I have 1.5oz mat, 6oz cloth. and 24oz roven. any and all suggestions are appreciated. I will post pics of the entire process once complete. With a little luck I'll be in the water next weekend
