ive read on many posts about the older type of fuel pipes being destroyed by the new fuels.

what is the type of pipe to get that the newer petrol with the ethonal and other crazy additives dont effect.

i am in the uk and going to be replacing all the pipes on my evinrude 60hp to be on the safe side.
ive already just got the main tank to engine pipe with a new bulb as well,so its just going to be the
pipes from engine tray to the carbs etc.

i have been looking on a few sites that do custom pipes for jet ski's etc that do the coloured pipe and
they seem to all say silicone pipe !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
is this correct that silicone is going to be good 2 stroke petrol mix ?
I thought silicone was not good for petrol pipes !!!!!

any help with what type of material is good for the new fuels would be good

Re: re-newing all fuel pipes

Not sure how you classify fuel hose (or pipe as you call it) in England. Here in the states our standard is set by the U.S. Coast Guard and it is called "SAE J1527". That is what we are required to use for the gas (petrol) containing Ethanol so it won't rot out the hose. The hose would have this printed on it. To further complicate matters I have been told that when buying such hose to make sure it is made in the U.S. because some countries will manufacture the hose and stamp it with SAE J1527 but it is not made to the same quality. I have also been told to stay away from hose that has a grey colored inner lining as this lining dissolves in Ethanol based fuel.

Those grey tempo style fuel lines were used on many seadoos back in the late 80s early 90s. They are terrible, the ethanol rips them apart buggering up the fuel system pretty quickly.

now thats good info to know! is it only the inner lining to be wary of....or grey line in general? ( i have had some of the line....grey outer casing, that seemed a lot stiffer than it should be.

Re: re-newing all fuel pipes

Regarding those gray fuel hoses with the special ethanol-resistant liner: The clear inner lining of the gray fuel hose deteriorates over time. (This includes the 2004-2008 Mercury gray fuel lines.) The liner turns yellow. When the clear inner liner deteriorates, it fractures. Pieces of it will migrate down the fuel hose and will wind up at the hose barb by the engine. This results in poor fuel delivery (a fuel line clog) and significant running issues. Usually this is not a major event, usually just poor top end running. But I have seen one Merc powerhead blown up due to lean fuel delivery on all 4 cyls.-probably over a long period of time at max timing and will too little fuel.

Wow, now im a bit worried about the new hose i have already got from tank to engine, will have to look at the colour of the inner pipe.

So is the silicone coloured fuel lines a no no as well.
i often see a few race engines on the net with bright coloured fuel hose etc, what is it that they are using ?
or is the bright stuff just for short term usage and breaks up over a season ?
