re old johnson motor

just to say thanks to a couple of guys that helped with information for my old johnson fd16 when it wouldnt fire and found it sheared the keyway and found it needed new coils etcafter dismantling which is now running again .Anyway i have a old 18hp johnson fd16 serial no7159 about 1967 model which ive mentioned at the moment its a pull start which isnt to bad but am i able to convert this to a elecric starter with a button on the front of the motor i dont want to get stranded with this old motor what type of starter do i need and where can i try in victoria australia cheers peter

FD-16 is a 1962 model, Peter. That is important because it calls for a 24:1 mix, rather than the 1967's 50:1.

I do think it can be converted to electric start but I would have no idea where to get the parts in Oz.

thanks for the quick reply also do you know the plug gap and whats the best way to tune it i havent a manual its seems ok i just set high and low while at medium revs

Champion J4C gapped to .030
