Re-packing rudders (28' Bertram)

I kept tightening them down all last year and the leak(s) kept returning so I better repack them this year. Is the packing up in the cap portion of the assembly? Any instructions, photos, sketches would be appreciated.

It's not too bad if you can get to the stuffing box. I was able to wiggle into a semi-comfortable position, reaching over the tranny with the exhaust riser bumping into my head. <br />That "pick" Tommays showed is really necessary. I tried to do it by making my own but ended up wasting half a day and spent the 20 bucks (!) for it. <br />I recommend GFO packing (it's referred to as "low friction" packing in the link I posted). It's expensive but will last longer than the stuff WM sells. It also can be tightened so it leaks less then conventional flax.
