Re-replacing Floor

OK, Im tearing out th floor to replace a rotten stringer. The floor had been replaced along with two of the three stringers back in 1997 (my father and I did the work). This was our first job, and it was done with perhaps marginal knowledge of the work. Anyways, I am noticing that this repair was not very strong, as judged by the ease with which I have been able to remove the floor.

We used polyester resin and it sure did not seem to bond well. On top of the deck, we used cloth and I could literally pull the cloth off of the plywood (not easily, but with good force). Also, we used poly and I think cabosil to make filler to join the floor to the hull, and I really most of the cabosil is cracked like it is simply too brittle to be used.

The wood we used held up well - it all looks nearly as good as new. The two stringers we did replace are good, and the glass seems to have decent bond, though some areas not great.

So, my question is what the heck happened? This sure doesnt appear to be a solid repair. I had planned to use epoxy resin this time around (didnt know it existed back when we did the original job), but what did we do wrong? If poly was this bad, I dont think anyone would use it, so I know something must have been wrong with our workmanship.

When using Poly you have to go wood, csm, cloth, csm, cloth etc.

Probably not enough filler.. poly alone is brittle.
You should have peanut butter consitency.. search peanut butter for ingredients
