Last week after letting the motor sit for a couple of weeks with out running it, I put the water hose on the motor and started it up .Every thing worked normal. I always do this just in case it won't start at the ramp. Any way I took the boat to the ramp and started it up and away we went. I ran it for about and half an hour and we went to Cabin John Cove cruised around there for a while then pulled over to the side ,shut the motor off and ate lunch. Now here's the problem When I went to start it it wouldn't start. Plenty of fresh gas, It crancked, over battery is new. I may have push the choke it when I first tried to start it ,I'm not sure. Now what did I do wrong. I was towed back to the ramp . Later that day I hooked up the hose, cranked it over and it started .I ran it for a while and shut it off. then I went out an hour later and it started right up. Now here's my problem.I had an I/O for ten years no problem starting the engine. Now I have an 90 hp Merc two stroke. It looks like I need help on re-starting the motor, any Idea's.

A two stroke is easy to flood. If it happens again, press the button to give it full throttle without being in gear and crank the engine. If it is flooded, it will usually hit and miss for a while and you'll see lot's of smoke when it does start.

Two strokes cool off much faster than an I/O so it may be that you need to push the key in to "prime" the engine. There is no choke as such on that engine. If you have a surface mount control box, you should also raise the fast idle lever 1/3 to 1/2 up on restarts, especially on cold starts and even on some warm restarts (after 15 minutes or so).

With my '96 90 Merc I hit the choke if it was slightly cool, but it did flood easily. If it didn't start right away I pushed the button on the side of the controller and opened her wide open. Be ready to back it off quickly as it will be roaring at WOT if you don't. Mine always started when I opened it up. I wish I could do this with my current OMC controller.

I think what I did was push the choke in as I was trying to start it up and that's where I screwed up. I'm not used to having a two stroke engine yet. I'm used to V 8's.I also didn't squeez the primer bulb before leaving the dock.
