Re-use exhaust housing gaskets?

I just finished re-sealing a lower unit only to take it out on a first run to find that I should have inspected the shift dog a bit closer. In best practice, the exhaust housing gaskets should probably be replaced when removing again but; has anyone had experience in re-using them? It’s only 20$ for the pair but 20$ is 20$.

Which specific gaskets? Picture or part numbers?

If it is 305312 then I would re-use it.-------That gasket does not do much of anything anyway.

Well----You doubt the advice here.------But look at the 1968 model 85 HP and 65 HP.------Essentially the same motors as you have and the gasket is not shown on them.----Not even needed !!!

Im not doubting the advice; I simply just like to know the reasoning behind any advice.

Not needed because anything that might seep out there was headed back to the sea anyway. If it makes you feel any better, just use a bit of gasket sealer on the joint.
