My Volvo SX drive was leaking oil into the U-Joint bellows. I decided this was something I didn't want to tackle myself so I took it in to get replaced. When I picked up the drive I looked at the repair order and there was not a new pretension sleeve on the list of parts replaced. I asked the service manager about this and he said if the rolling resistance is less than spec before they take it apart, they re-use the old one if only the seal is replaced.
The volvo service manual states that the pretension sleeve should always be replaced. When I brought this up to the service manager, he said they would redo it with a new pretension sleeve.
Since I don't have any marine technician training, I can only go by what the manual says. Is what the shop is telling me standard practice in re-using the old pretension sleeve?
Dave.
