All the corrosion discussion on another thread has me somewhat intimidated. Instead of hijacking that thread, I thought I'd start another.

I'll be dismantling my motor soon to replace water pump, rebuild carbs, do ignition work as necessary, etc. Even though it ran like a jackrabbit when parked, it hasn't been run in 10-12 years. It's never been left in the water and was only used in fresh water. During dis-assembly, should I expect corrosion problems with the bolts? Since it's trailered and only used in fresh water, are anti-seize compounds needed during re-assembly?

BTW, I plan on laying it down with sparkplugs up, removing them and pouring oil in the cylinders and leaving for several days to loosen the rings. Is Marvel Mystery oil the best for this or some other product? Also, if one of the pistons is bottomed, will I fill the intake manifold with oil?

Motor is 1977 Evinrude, 35hp, model 35703.

Re: Reactivation of stored motor

What I put down in those holes is some TCW-3 oil. I only use marvel when it is stuck. Pour some down in there and let it set for few min. and then softly turn it over enough to get the piston off bottom, if in fact you have one on bottom.I normally mix me a bout two gals of mix a little heavy when I go to restart her.
As for the bolts I would get some PB-Blaster and soak them real good before attempting to remove.
BTW do a good carb rebuild and replace all the rubber hoses and look at that fuel pump to.
Yo need to be down on douglas with that thing because I was thru there last sat and the striper were running.

oops went back and reread your post and saw you already thought of the carbs.

And t-stats & replace the gear oil ( use new gaskets on the fill & drain plugs).
