Ask a Canadian how they like their health care system. I have relatives in Ontario Canada and they hate it.

Put it on the ballot in Ontario, and it would pass with a 90% margin.

The quickest way to lose an election in Canada is come out for two tier health care plan

Ontario health care has it's drawbacks, no question, but given a choice between the American system or the Canuck system, they'd go for the Canuck system every time

I guess my cousin is in the 10% then, doesn't change the fact that some don't like it.

What's up with the free healthcare BS, it would still have to be paid for, therefore how free can that be?
Humans need to die off at a faster rate, its the surest way for the planet to survive and remain healthy.

When the states that raided the settlement money it received from the tobacco industry, and comes back and try to tax our neighbors $.80 cents a pack after blowing the settlement money on every pork barrel project it could come up with.

Smoking prevention programs received only $1.8 million of the $965 million the state received from the national tobacco settlement. $965 million sure would go rather far in paying some insurance premiums.

This is what happened in Missouri, the last election there was a $.80 cent tax per pack they were trying to push thru and this is what happened to it. The fools that tried to ram it through are scratching their head, trying to figure out why it went down in flames.

Trust was key on tobacco tax
Doubts on the state’s handling of money apparently swayed voters, experts say.

The Kansas City Star

In the end, voters’ rejection of Amendment 3, which would have raised Missouri’s cigarette tax by 80 cents a pack, may have come down to trust.
The campaign message from tax supporters was that tobacco companies had damaged our health and couldn’t be trusted to tell the truth.
The message from opponents was that state government had squandered previous tax increases and couldn’t be trusted to spend any new tax money.
In the end, voters apparently decided that state government was less trustworthy than tobacco companies.

I'm just curious on how many of the 46.6 million without health care are under the age of 30. Usually it is after that age is when health issues arise. So,,,,,is there really a need to insure that age group that maybe will not need any coverage? Bottom line is that the insurance companys want to feed off of that age group that won't require any health care until later. I personally never had health care until I was 35 and had never used any insurance for major claims. To this day I haven't had a need to use it for anything major, but it does make me feel better knowing that I do have it.

Obesity has far more health problems than smokers will ever have. A person that smokes can quit and in 7 years his/hers lungs can be regenerated. A person weighing over 375 that looses its weight will need surgery to get rid of the flab. Another question is that who is going to be paying for that surgery on the person that may have not had the will power to control their diet?

We are who we are and should be responsible for ourselves and not be obligated to pay for others bad habits.

Back in the 60's there was about 70% of the population that smoked, only about 25% overweight. Now they claim there is about 35% who smoke and about 65% overweight. The tide has turned showing that one is just as bad as the other....I'm truely glad I did quit smoking. It has been a tad over 2 months now and I have gained 20 pounds. I'm actually more active now than when I smoked to help counterbalance the habit of non-stop eating. (at least it seems that way) I'm starting to think maybe it is a no win situation.:'(

From the above quote: We are who we are and should be responsible for ourselves and not be obligated to pay for others bad habits.

Based on that statement, ALL insurance should be banned and we each should assume our own responsibilities, including Flood, Car, Life, Medical etc.

No thanks, I would rather the status quo.

What are you going to do about a self employed person who doesn't buy himself insurance? Sounds like insurance police to me. They will come out and weigh you, smell your clothes, and then hand you a bill. Seems like it is gonna get really weird . . .

And did treedancer just post that Governments waste money? Really? Hmmmmmm . . . I know, vote Democrat and they will get less to waste . . . no, wait, that's not right. Hmmmmmm.

1) Health insurance is not mandatory.

2) One of the major reasons to be self employed is finincial. If one cant pay the bills, sometrhing is not right and perhaps it is wiser to seek employment some other way. All of the sucessful business people that I know are finincially better off than "the working for someone" people.

I’m not going to do the math on that, but it’s shameful, and par for the course.

It wasn’t so long ago the The Red Cross was slammed for having 90% of the donated moneys soaked up by administration... also par for the course, but a piker compared to the waste in Government. (BTW... the Dems are the Artists at this game)

Bureaucracies get caught up in the web of “we are doing good and we have to account for every dollar”... so they spend every dollar on accountancy... and of course the 200,000 dollar salaries for the bureaucrats, and the staff that makes them bureaucrats in the first place to account for the money.... more staff = justification for their own level of feed..

Our society is rife with it, from the county Commissioner that wants another study done (+staff) to the Congress critters that take “Fact Finding” missions to the far (and pleasant) corners of the world... it’s all feeding at YOUR trough... you pay for it.

So now you want to get this Dinosaur nibbling out of your pocket.... Again?... what would be the point? Billions spent on Universal Heath care will go right down the toilet to further some politicians personal goal, and not benefit you a dime.

Get control of this Juggernaut, prune it down to manageable levels... and here is where I come in.

For every law to be enacted, 2 laws must be erased until the basic, US laws will fit on 3 pages... is that too much to ask?... Do I really need to know 2,436,283 pages of Law just to save myself from the Bureaucrat?

Right now you couldn’t fit the US Tax code in a 2000 Sq. Ft. Home if it was baled and neatly stacked... the contradictions between US, State, County, and City law Guarantees you that if “They” want to Fook with you, you’re meat.

Pare it down, get it to the point you and I can understand it, this should be the goal of everyone in this country, Dem or Rehub. This is your life we are talking about, not some hypothetical political discussion. Get control of the most obvious waste in Government, then we can talk the “bennies” for the people.

Laws are what you live by, it would be neat to know all of them.... End Rant.

That is the most sensible thing I've read on here since July.

Problem is the number of lawmakers who are also lawyers. And "we the people" were STUPID enough to elect them. If the Founding Fathers even dreamed of this happening, I'm sure they would have written articles that banned lawyers from serving in Congress right into the Constitution.

The laws have become so complex mostly because of the fact that most of the laws are just more ways for more lawyers to make more money. You can't blame them - if any one of us could write our own ticket, we sure would.

Short & sweet.....solutions start with tort reform, term limits & campaign finance reform - none of which will ever get far in a Congress inundated with lawyers - REGARDLESS of party.
