RED SKY is done, except for a bit of detailing that I will do when I am motivated to.

Here is BETITO when I brought her home.

Being a Boston Whaler there was no major stuctural work to do, So I refinished the mahogany, replaced the CDX with mahogany, replaced the seats and equipped her for fresh water fishing.

Re: Ready for shakedown.

I don't think any of the Stripers had bow rails, DJ.

JB Jr. lost a 50+" musky when out with his son in the Montauk because the bow rail prevented use of the cradle except in the narrow gap between bow and side rails. Grandbuddy couldn't handle it.

Glad RED SKY has no bow rail. . . I think. :)

Great Job JB! I can see why you prefer the Boston Whaler. Maybe thats what my next boat will be after I get too old to deal with mine. My 2footitis has reached its limit. Time to go smaller,,,,,,,,especially the gas tank!

Re: Ready for shakedown.

RED SKY is my 8th Whaler, SS. None has ever let me down and when I was young and immortal at least one saved my life. I buried the bow of my '66 Sakonnet 16 in green water halfway between Haulover and Bimini. I waded in about a foot of water back to the stern, pulled the plug (that's why I always plug from the inside) and drove her dry.

RED SKY is a 1986. . .20 years old. . .and the hull is good as new. All you really need to do is take care of the elegant mahogany or teak and they last forever. She is a step down from my previous Whaler, a Montauk 17 that now belongs to RyanT.

20 years and looks great! She cleaned up real nice. Now it's time to get some fish stories to go along with it.

What did you add to the dash? I see a new meter? and some new switches.

Added a compass and a switch/fuse panel to the instrument panel, Bob.

On top of the console are an Eagle Cuda 168 SONAR and a Garmin 276C GPS. The Garmin is the same one I use in Ole Blue.
