Hi, I am new to this site. I am getting my 25hp, 2009, Yamaha outboard motor ready to set sail again after recovering from a 6-year illness. In my quest to prepare it for sailing, I accidentally broke a zerk fitting from under the tiller. When I contacted a local dealer to see if I needed an SAE or Metric zerk fitting, I contacted a reputable dealer on eBay. In the course of email correspondence, I was informed that my motor may not be an official Yamaha producct. I have found the VIN, or whatever it is called but have not found a way to determine if it is a real yahama or a knock off. If someone could help me find out if the is real, I would appreciate it very much.

This is the serial #6BPKL1000437

:welcome:

Post a picture of the serial/model number tag/plate, as that would help with responses.

6BPKL 1000437 was made in April of 2009. First sold in August of 2009 to an owner in Pennsylvania.

Now this is not to say that your specific motor is a real Yamaha product. It might be a Phillipino knock off. But personally I think a dealer on Ebay who has not seen the motor in person is an idiot to suggest that it is counterfeit. But, let's presume that it is counterfeit. It is what it is. Genuine Yamaha replacement parts should work.
