Really? $42 for a bolt?

Rebuilding my new-to-me 1975 Starcraft Islander. I broke a bolt when removing the gimbal housing from the transom. Finally found a replacement online and they want $42 for it!:eek::eek:

Take a look at this link and find item #25 (part #55989A8) to see the part I'm referring to.

Of course there are two of these - I only broke one, but if I'm going to replace one I'd rather replace both because... well... just because.

Then tell me there's another source that isn't gonna cost me 90 bucks for a couple bolts. Good gravy!

You may wanna cross check that part number on google. It's actually a bolt kit, consiting of two bolts, and a couple other minor pieces.
Not that having to spend over $40 for two bolts is a bargain, but it's better than $90!

Ayuh,... That's an aluminum bolt, threaded on both ends,... A shouldered stud if you will...

Kinda Specialized stuff...

Pretty sure that's the most expensive bolt on the boat... they're more fragile than the average steel bolt, hence people break them more easily.

Remember to be careful removing that particular bolt in future :)

It is a special bolt and then the price is double because it says marine. I have learned that anything that says marine on it is at least 2X the price.

The question is,,, how bad/quick do you need it?

I replaced both of those bolts on my transom assy, picked up the complete set (bolts, anodes, gaskets) for $20 off Ebay. Though,,, took a while to find someone selling them at a price I wanted to pay.

I've got a free one that's rotted about 1/2 way through if you want it :D (just kidding) the other one was rotted about 3/4 of the way through and broke in half when I started unscrewing it....

As the boat captain said!... It's hard to put your boat in the travel lift with both hands in the air.

And, 9 times out of 10, for good reason....

Yeah man. Wow.

I ordered two new ones and I'm gonna have the original ones gold plated and put in a display box.
