Really dry around here

My wife and I went over to Lake Henderson located in Inverness, FL today, to have a look for ourselves. It's our favorite lake. Reports were that the lake had dried up significantly and the ramps were closed. It was a nice time together to check out the lake, spend some time and grab a bite. The Extreme Drought we've had for over a year has really punished the waters in the area. We visited all three ramps and they were definitely really low.

The lake is down about 2.5 feet from normal, which translates to 5 feet low at the ramps. In spite of all the rain we've had recently, it hasn't made much difference.

Closed for sure. This is the ramp on route 44e. My favorite. Nice ramps and a handicap parking spot right next to the ramps.

The low water didn't bother this 12 footer very much though!

I take it Lakes in Florida are not Safe to Swim in, or Waterski on, unless you want to be part of the Food Chain

Yeah, I wouldn't, but many people do. Personally, I won't swim in anything but a concrete pool. And that includes up north!

When I was first stationed in Spokane Washington in the early 1980s, I often thought of going swimming in the lakes there because there were no gators.

Then I read a fishing magazine where a 40 inch Muskie attacked a woman's foot and ripped it up good! Nope, concrete for me, thanks.

Northern Lakes are safe to swim in ... mostly ... maybe some bacteria, or a water snake that isn't poisonous, just aggressive. Muskies aren't gonna bother you ... and neither are the pike or walleye (unless you catch them and stick your fingers in their mouths, or drop them on the bottom of the boat and they get you as they flop around). Now the sunfish/bluegill are a different story. They will attack you, but only tickle, not hurt. All good.

When I was a kid living in Maryland in the 60s, my uncle was a member of a sportsman's club. They had a bunch of ponds where we'd go fishing. One time, my dad and I decided to swim a bit... and came out covered in leeches! Ewww!

It is dry here in Central Minnesota, they are having rain masses at churches.

So, we were all hoping that the depression sitting close to us in the Gulf was going to turn into a low intensity tropical storm and come sit on top of us for awhile. But, it must have heard us thinking and changed directions.

We are about 15" low with regards to rainfall this year on top of last years drought/rainfall deficit

We are as dry as a popcorn fart. Hopefully the next few days of rain will help

Regarding swimming and alligators, most locals don't think twice about swimming. It's the water moccasins that concern me

The last 4 weeks we have had more than 8 inches of Rain. Last night, an Inch and a Half, with more today and tomorrow. I would prefer it to be as Dry as a Popcorn Fart, and the temps below 20c

Every Lake in my Province has Leeches, in almost 70 yrs, I have never had one stick to me. Of course I stay away from Weeds and Reeds when in the Water, as those Blood Suckers tend to hang around there waiting for a Fish.
In 87, I went swimming in one Lake. got back in the Boat, and had a bunch of what looked like small Shrimp stuck in my Chest and Back Hair

Driest 7 month start to the year for us since we started monitoring in the late 80s. Like 10 inches behind the gun from 1/1 and over 2 feet since 24

We are 1.61” above normal rain fall for the year with heavy storms expected tomorrow afternoon. I haven’t had the boat out yet this year because rain and schedules haven’t aligned.
