I need to replace my upper unit. Iboats says it will bolt right up with no issues at all. How in the World do I justify the difference in price for the Mercruiser.

SEI for 695
MC for 1350

Someone talk me out of the SEI please....

I have never used one but have only heard good things. I just got two new trim cylinders from them and so far look like good quality.

Consider this:

For the pice of just a Mercruiser Upper alone, you could have a brand spanking new SEI upper and lower with a 3 year warranty.

I realize that the first thought is - "There has to be a catch to this deal somewhere."

I have installed a couple of these drives on my boat and my dad's boat. That was years ago and they have held up fine. They really are great units at an unbelievable price.

Now keep in mind I install both upper and lower brand new. Installing just an upper might cause problems whether you go with Merc or SEI as the junk in the lower can contaminate the new upper. (Depending upon what happened to your upper of course).

Well, I guess it doesn't matter now as I just got a call from my insurance company and they are going to cover this expense under the previous claim. I had to replace the housing in Sept and this accident created a stress fracture. Last week, after about 9 hours since repair, 3 or 4 teeth broke off upper drive. The shop didn't think there was a problem but obviously there was. Reputable outfit but he buys everything direct from factory. In the event I had to swallow the upper, I wasn't about to spend that out of pocket. hence the reason I posted this....

Get this, my shop is getting the new entire (upper and lower) from dealer - Mercruiser for a mere $2640.00!!!

Can you believe that. I was quoted $2100.00 for the upper alone through Mercruiser. And $2640.00 for whole drive.

That is almost a 1k difference in apples to apples from iboats. Dang the dealer is soo high...makes you wonder....
