Really stupid newbie question about hydraulics on motor

So I have seen many boats with hydraulic trim...however this boat I just purchased has electric trim for outboard and the hydraulics lift and lower the engine in the boat:eek: WHY? What is that for? I know its a stupid question but I need to know exactly what that is for, thanks

You must have bought a boat with an OMC stringer drive, correct? The outdrive tilts up via the electric motor, for trailering only. The "trim" function is done by lifting and lowering the entire engine, since the outdrive is bolted directly to the engine, not the transom (like Mercruisers, Volvo Pentas, and OMC Cobras). That's the only way to move the outdrive up a little at a time while it's underway.

Uh Oh - I think you have an "L" drive. Better hope nothing breaks. Baby that with all of your heart and soul. :eek:

I am with Tilliam, sounds like a Stringer. Front motor mounts raise and lower to trim the drive. Good luck with that . . . we're here to help, but be prepared for some Stringer bashing :eek: . . .
