Hi everyone,

this is one of my first posts and just wanted to let everyone know that the rebuild of my Haines V16R (Australian made Hull) is about to begin. Below are a couple of pics of the hull in its present form.

I plan to do the following to the boat.

1) Install a large 95 litre fuel tank below deck. (current tank sits above deck and only 45.5 litres)

- QUESTION :
should i provide access to the entire tank or just the fuel line pickup, filler tube etc. ? If entire access, how are the access plates fitted? (ie attached to the floor, supported etc?)

2) Install a walkthrough windscreen much like tengals did.

3) Install a rear wall underneath the two splashwell seats to hide the battery compartment and wires. This will be made from plywood and will have two large hatches to acess behind the wall. Below is a picture of the current set-out.

4) Install a large kill tank for fish in the floor. Can also double as an ice cooler for those sunny days on the water.

5) Replace all fitting with new stainless fittings, replace all wiring, install new radio etc, have new custom made bimini, re carpet interior

6) Retain current back to back seats (very good condition see above), and have new gunwale upholstery and two cushions for the splashwell seats sewn in the same design as the back to back seats.

7) Repaint boat in interlux perfection. After two tone, a white colour as base (keel to chine and base colour on top deck), and another colour (from chine to rub rail and the non skid sections of the top deck)

-QUESTION?
Any suggestions on colours for the darker shade? I was thinking either the platinum color or the cream colour. They need to go with the current upholstery colours.

Thanks to everyone for their attention and i will keep everyone updated with photos as the rebuild begins TOMORROW!!!

Thanks

Nick

Also wanted to ask?

I need to smooth out some of the previous fiberglass work that I have done on the transom. Obviously this will be sanded back but will need to add some form of filler to get it really smooth. Is automotive Bog( body filler) ok to use for this application?

Thanks

Nick

Sounds like your just putting on lip stick and high heels to your boat.

seeimg you are obviously a fisherman, i would not use carpet. i go with a non skid deck surface. a lot of the new higher end boats are using removable carpet, that snaps into place. and the are using a poly-plastic full size fuel tank access hatch that screws in place. i've never liked below deck tanks because of lack of access. why tear your boat up, to fix something simple. you have a nice project well worth restoring.

Why do you ausies have to cut a perfectly good boat and make it into a bow-rider? :)

TenGals did a great job. Hope you do the same!

Re: rebuild about to begin

haha, i know, i hear ya!!

But the main reason I am doing so is for anchor access. Since this boat has a nice deep V, it tends to slice through the waves well when underway, but is very tender at rest.

Here in Melbourne Port Philip Bay gets very choppy, and I dont like the idea of having to clamber around the screen to get access to the bow, and hence why i'm chopping the deck!
