Re: rebuild my carb

If ya don't know, take it to a boat wrench...its a lot more involved than ya think ...
..and for the price of kits and labor, well, I sell anything old on Ebay, and buy a new carb,..cheaper in the long run..remember car carb quits on the side of the road..so what..on the water a super problem..just an idea to ponder..not saying ya can't do it, but if ya never did one...well...IMHO

Re: rebuild my carb

I rebuilt the carb on our Mercruiser 120. The kit was relatively inexpensive and came with instructions and blown-out diagrams to help. Worked great-the motor wouldnt even start before but fired right up after....Only issue I have is getting the thing tuned in right. I have no idea how it should be...anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

If you have confidence in yourself, not a problem. But with some of the people that post here with questions, some I feel like going to there house and taking there wrenches away..so I post on the side of caution...
..you sound like not one of them, so go at it!

Re: rebuild my carb

Get the good, expensive Gunk ( 1 gallon) to soak it in- spray cleaners won't do it.

Re: rebuild my carb

Get the numbers off the carb and head to Napa, they should be able to get it.
As far as adjusting its just setting the float rise and drop and the idle mixture screw once its on the boat and running.the rebuild kit will have all the specs for setting..

Re: rebuild my carb

it's not that difficult. Most don't get the carb cleaned out good before rebuilding it though. If you don't get all the gunk out you are only softening it to let it gum up the carb rebuild. Like it was said. Get the good carb cleaner and soak it good. Don't use spray.
