rebuild or not rebuild

hey guys i have a question maybe you can help me with i just bought a 1978 merc 700 70hp 3 cylinder outboard well bottom two cylinders have damage is this motor worth rebuilding i can have it rebuilt for around 1000 what im lokking for is info on this motor is it a reliable motor does it have problems im thinking of rebuilding but only if its worth it hey any help would be appreciated thanks

I would pass on that one you can pick one up a little newer than that. That thing is worth about $400 if it is not all coroded.

If you got it for free then it would be worth it. If you paid anything for it, add that to the rebuild cost and call it based on the cost of something newer.

Rebuliding it for 1000.00 is achievable if you can find all the parts you need. Don't be suprised if you've underbudgeted, it goes on a b o a t, (Bring On Another Thousand).

I have a 1978 Mercury 70hp 3 cyl.

I would not spend $1000 on a rebuild. I would spend maybe $400 or so, or I would be looking for something else.
