Im attempting a rebuild on my Dad's 1977 Evinrude 55HP 55773D. I have the manual for the motor, a OEM one but I would like to get 'Real world' experience/advice and tips on how to do this the right way the 1st time and smoothly.

I have some questions about a rebuild.I have pics this time to help make it more neat and more to the point.

First is this a bad thing, the wrist pin on this one piston moves freely. (VIDEO)

Top crank bearing housing
Can I rebuild this roller bearing with new needle bearings , oil seal and other seal? They want alot for the housing.

Middle crank bearing housing
Same with this roller bearing , can it be rebuilt with just needle bearing? The housing is alot cheaper than the top crank housing.

Bottom crank bearing housing
Can get for $22, also need a bearing puller. What kind do I need to pull it?

Both the connecting arm needle bearing assemblies Im gonna do. Any special tips to help the ease of installation?

Again are these items you normally do when your in this area and/or how can I tell if they need replacement of not? I have a OEM manual that focuses on this motor %100, but any hints or advice on have to avoid certain pitfalls in this area of work is greatly appreciated. First time im doing a rebuild.

Thanks,

Wont matter if your replacing pistons as new ones will be loose and rotate in piston boss....
Top crank bearing housing

Sorry but no as rollers are not sold seperate, you can get new seals.....
Middle crank bearing housing

Thats a split race bearing, if race is smooth and not scratch/pitted you can purchase new rollers in retainers....
Bottom crank bearing housing

You can get this cheaper if you shop around(bearing house) as its a 6206 bearing. Remove the retainer clip and use a bearing splitter(rent from autozone/advance) and a press to remove and install new bearing.

Thank you fazt bullet

I was talking to a dude from the rebuild place and he said that the middle and top 2 bearings assembly's usually last the life of the crank.

Should I replace them both or just leave them alone?

I dont know if Im replacing the pistons, they look okay. If the machine shop says there good and clean/polish them up what should I do?

If I stay with these pistons do I get a new wrist pin / bearing set, our just replace the bearings in them?
