Re: Rebuilding My Mercruiser - Please Help

Brooksey!

Like you, I am new to this forum and have probably asked what some people might consider to be a 'dumb' question or two myself. If I had a service-manual I might not have asked any.

As far as your 'slamming-Don' goes, you are way out of line... so give your head a shake and read.

Dude, there are some things in life that one just does not do. Like posting half-witted, inflamatory remarks aimed at denegrating one of our iboats 'Gods'...

Do you have any idea how many people on this forum he has helped over the years? Obviously not and - sadly for you - you'll likely not count yourself among them from here on in.

Happy Boating!

Does your mother still hand you the toilet paper, or does she just wipe it for you?

I got her all apart today and found a fried bearing.

No scorring or play on the crank thankfully.

I doubt that.
If a bearing's knocking, the crank needs work. 1 in a million shot that the crank survives without any damage. The crank may be the cause even.

Bearings do not "Fry". Bacon fries.

Bearings fail - and it's really never the bearing at fault, it's usually lack of lube (no oil or failed oil pump or clogged passages in the crank), or poor lube quality.
Other less common bearing issues - temperature - misalignment - welding arc/alternator issues

You have to find the cause of the problem before fixing anything.

best bet - go find a used good running used engine and swap it in. It's faster and cheaper.
