Just curious, are you following the OEM service manual on these repairs, or is this a "seat of the pants" type carb rebuild.
If no manual, I have a link to one, just need to know an engine serial number.

Also, don't forget the check ball that is located underneath the venturi, like the previous owner of my boat did....

Yeah, Don, I have been going by the manual. Otherwise I would have no idea how to do most of this. I got it back when the link in the Adult's Only Section still worked.

I just looked at it again, and it doesn't say anything specific about the needle having that spring inside it, but if I look closely at the picture, I can see the spring:

Yep, dn, I made sure to put that check ball in. The darn little retainer clip was hard enough to get out that I remember it well lol

I have a feeling you found the problem...the spring, needle and seat.
Leave that little ball alone...;)

So I put it all back together again... didn't put in any other checkballs, or change the needle. I'm not sure why, but now when I hook it up to the electric pump, it doesn't flood or leak anywhere. I can hear it filling up the bowl at first, then it shuts off. I can tell it is building up pressure in the lines because of the change in tone in the pump. And I get nice strong squirts when I pump the throttle lever. So hopefully this problem is fixed. :) I will know for sure once I get the starter rebuilt/replaced.

Thanks for all the help everybody!

Sounds like the float was binding and when you carefully reassembled it you fixed the issue. Good Job !!!

Just to let you guys know, the carb seems to be working as it should now. Finally got it running today and it idles and revs pretty darn smooth. I guess the problem was in the needle valve and seat. If that thing is flooding, the valve, seat and float seem to be the area to check before anything else.

Thanks again for all the help... Sure was a great feeling hearing that thing running again today! :)
