I rebuilt my 1995 force 120hp and i added boysen reeds. I just installed a new stator as well and the motor won't idle and smokes like crazy. i also screwed with the timing but i don't understand why at idle the light hits the 0 deg. mark and the motor is supposed to run at 30 deg. BTDC the WOT timing checks out ok. any help will be appreciated, marcus in san diego

The composite reeds have given you far more vaccum than stock reeds did. You are burning way too rich. Boyesen usually puts that right in the paperwerk they send with the reed set.
Do stick with the factory plugs if at all possable. It may preform better with hotter plugs, but you don't want to risk damaging the pistons and such, and you can allmnost count on it.

Timing; This is due to te fact that timing advances with throttle possition. The timing must be adjusted as stated in the shop manual, (you know, the "on a test wheel,in a test tank at wide open throttle"). Easier said than done, I know. But if you set it to idle timing, and hven't futzed with the advance adjutments, it should track up without having to re-time it.
Use WalMart Supertech2000 or Quicksilver premium. They tend to smoke the least.
