I have a nice 3hp JHR22C, serial number C529256 which dates from the 60's. I have rebuilt it with new carb kit, coils, points, condensers, cylinder head gasket and decoked the head and cleaned water channels. I can get it started fine and it will stay on the start setting or retarded to a slow, stop setting, without missing, but any advance on the throttle bar (where it meets the cam on the carb) beyond the start setting, to fast, 'causes the engine to cut out. Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem may be?

Might have a plugged up high-speed fuel circuit, which means it's only running on the low speed. Make sure the high speed jet is spotless. Run a paperclip through it to make sure there's no grime gumming it up. Also, make sure the cork gasket between the main jet standpipe and the carb bowl is present and in good shape...<br />- Scott
