volvo aq130d(no timing belt),replaced plugs&wires, set timing(8btdc), adjusted valves, rebuilt pair single throat solex 44's. sync'd carbs, when you hit the throttle hard they back fire, when you push it easily thru no problem, i noticed the accelerator pumps have adjustment on external lever/shaft/spring. what to do? would timing adjustment help?

backfiring may be caused by a bad valve, lean mixture, bad accelerator pump, weak fuel pump.

Make sure that the accelerator pump is pumping immediately as the throttle opens.

After that go back through valve lash adjustment.

You may need a "valve job" to fix a leaking valve. OR... You missed something in the previous work...

Madera, you haven't mentioned points in any of your threads. A weak spark will also contribute to backfiring. Might be time to go back to basics - points, condenser and check the cap & coil tower for corrosion.

Aldo
