Recess opening in flywheel diameter?

I'm fitting a new triangular drive coupling from an alpha gen 2 to my '84 5.7, with a 12" flywheel.
I got around the lesser diameter with 3 new bolt holes in the coupler but now I see the raised edges of the rubber bumpers sit on top of the flywheel face.
My recess opening is 5-7/8", the rubber edges appear to want 6-3/8".

Can anyone confirm that measurement? No rush, thanks

Why all that work, just replace with the oem type.

The triangular coupler is for the 14" flywheels.

My flywheel is 12", can't be changed.
There's no gen 2 coupler for it. (That I know of)

I've already located the coupler center on a mill and drilled the 3 bolt holes, now just need to enlarge the recess on a lathe.
If no one has one in the open to measure, I'll cut a paper template to try first.

If I'm not mistaken,.........
The original Coupler that's on an '84 Merc. 350 put's the Splines right where they belong,.......
Even with the latest Alphas..........

Why go to the flexplate style,..??.....
