Do the fittings in the intake manifold on a V6 crossflow need to have the screens in them????
Got 2 plugged and when I removed them, both were covered in a soft rubbery substance...I blew them out insted of using a suringe like I should have and the screens departed the area, never to be found, I'm sure...
Beings I had those 2 plugged, I decided to check all of them on the intake...the remaining 4 had no screens so I need to know if this will/can be an issue...

Morning Ken.....

Never really asked why the screens are there.....figured it was to keep any junk from the crankcase from getting into the check valves possibly keeping them form operating correctly. Could it be an issue?....I would think. A check valve thats stuck open would allow crank case pressure to enter the reed cage area. Engine would run a little rich?? If it's stuck closed, you could get a build up in the reed cage area of fuel. Course I'm just speculating not knowing for sure......I could be out in left field someeplace....nothing like a little speculation to start the day off.... :)

Kenny: Small parts, and a air hose! I like to do that with carb jets. Blow one across the shop when I don't have a replacement on hand.

Yes, indeed. Nothing better than blowing carb parts around the shop with compressed air! That's almost as much fun as the spring clip down the carburetor venturi on a car. That's my favorite fun activity. I love pulling intake manifolds!

How often should you check/clean recirc valves?

Yes, it appears as though I am an Idiot....
120psi and small parts...good combo kenny.
OBJ, the residue I cleaned from the screens was on the reed-side of the screen, not inside, as in, screw the valve out and rub your finger across the end of the screen and it was just a blob of black goo...
It says in the manual to flush these with isopropyl, even while in the manifold and intake covers, so all "goo" would be flushed INTO the engine if there is anything in them....I chose to pull them out as to NOT flush them into the engine, and would like to know if the screens in the others ran "through" the engine????
The valves in the (actually, now that I think about it, the valves are in the intake covers, the fittings in the manifold are just that, "fittings")port covers have no screens, just an incredibly small orfice, which I can see would plug very easily, but the screen size in the fitting in manifold are of a size that would allow particles to flow through that would NOT go through the port cover fittings..?????
what to do, what to do...????

Yep....your right Ken....don't know what I was thinking....the screens are in the intake manifold.......but the screens would keep any junk that comes in with the intake air out of the check vlv.......just looked at a V6 cross flow intake manifold.....can't see any other reason for them...
