recoil doesn't catch '01 johnson 15hp

whenever starter has not been pulled for much more than a few minutes the starter rope will just pull out without cathing the pawls. When I remove the cover and pull to the end it will start to catch and I can start the motor. Shut it down and it bothers all over again. I can't figure out a relationship between the cover and starter as they don't seem to touch anywhere. It's a johnson j15rl '01 and a great runner. Thanks

Probably just needs lubrication, Neil.<br /><br />You could spray some WD-40 into it, but I would suggest a light machine oil (gun or sewing machine oil).<br /><br />Good luck.
