Hi all,

bought a new recoil starter spring, installed it... and 2 times now the spring loop that goes on the outside of the housing has retracted into the spring housing on me and I have to put a new bend on the end that comes outside of the housing!.... What am I doing wrong here? this spring is a pain to rewind in the housing just to pull a few times and have to do it again!

Re: recoil starter spring

That has happened to me many times with my 4 HP and 9.9 and 15. Here is what I do and it may not be correct but it has worked. I reform the loop around 1/4 or 3/8 copper tube. Then I cut a piece of tube the width of the spring and insert it in the loop and then take a small tie wrap and put it through the tube and crimp it around the spring. I've done it three time and it hasn't failed me. I wonder if the springs aren't too tight but in all honesty I didn't think I had them any tighter than they needed to be to pull all the rope back in. Best of luck. Rick.
