recomendations for merc classic fifty prop

Hi i would like to hear anyones recomendations for a prop on a mercury classic 50 1987 model.I dont know anything about them as i am a first time boat owner.

Its a 15ft half cabin( shallow V )fibreglass,dont know the weight though.Do i have to go to a weight station.....or is there another way to determine the weight...

I'd try a 12" or 13" pitch prop, 11" if the boat is really heavy. That should get you in the ballpark. Only running them would tell for sure. With a light to average load, you want to achieve close to 5500rpm. Under 11" pitch is more for very heavy non-planing boats and pontoons. 14" pitch and higher would be for very light boats.

Check your gear ratio - I agree with the previous poster if the ratio is 2:1. In any case, prop it so you hit 5500-6000 WOT with just you in the boat. In general, 13" is good on a medium weight 15' boat.
