Re: Recommendations for aftermarket fuel filter / separator kit
Thanks for all your input. A few notes for you guys:
I only use stainless steel hardware with locking everything on my boat. Things rattle loose over time on the water I never thought possible, plus rust really irritates me.
PiratePast40: Good eyes. I did use an anti-siphon on the outlet of the filter, but I also have one on top of the gas tank. When my boat sits for a week or so (I know, a very unfortunate situation indeed) it takes much longer to start. I figured I'm losing fuel. The TKS module checks fine. The manual warns agains fuel evaporating out of the bown naturally, but I'm not so sure that's what's going on. That little check ball didn't seem to have alot of tension on it, so I didn't think it would restrict my fuel flow. Have you heard of problems having a second anti-siphon fitting on it?
RobertGraham: I got my kit at Wal-Mart also for $27! Probably the same exact thing. Attwood.
All: The manual specifically says to NOT use teflon tape. I asked around why and the best answer I got was the alcohol they add to the fuel these days may deteriorate the tape. I don't know as I am no engineer, but I am smart enough to take note of bold print in the manual. I got the correct stuff on e-bay. It's 'Loctite Thread Sealant with Teflon, #592'. I didn't want to mess with anything else as they stated this over and over in the manual.
I did change the in-fuel-pump filter at the same time and cleaned the in-carb filter screen just to be confident my entire fuel filtration system is good to go. What a pain in the neck the in-fuel-pump filter was to change. I had to use a mirror, 2 lights, and alot of patience. Tough angle to work in.
