How often should I change my water pump impeller? I put a new one in when I bought the used 2003 Yam 150 2 stroke. Have put 200+ hours in almost 2 years. Salt water use; seldom flushed.
Re: recommendations on changing water pump impeller
Endlessly debatable subject, but the only right answer is to change the impeller Before it self-destructs and overheats/fries your motor 20 miles down the river! A commercial fisherman would probably change his every year, an occasional boater in fresh water maybe every 2 or 3 years. 2 years, saltwater, seldom flushed, probably time to do it, and you'll feel better about it anyway. Good Luck!
Re: recommendations on changing water pump impeller
I would not just worry about water pump seldom flushing leeds to chrystalized salt in water jackets. It will clog up in time and even if pump is changed every year will cause overheating and possible death to the outboard known as seldom flushed !
