Hello!

My mother in law has a Sweetwater pontoon boat. On holiday weekends, there are about 6 of us that take it out and anchor down at a sandbar where we hang all day. We typically hook up an Ipod for music, but the speakers on the boat arent all that loud and you really cant hear the music on the boat once you are in the water. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for some portable outdoor speakers that might fit the bill here. Just looking for something that we could use in conjunction with the boat speakers but that would give us a little more volume/sound and won't break the bank (under $100). Thanks for your help!

I use a portable box I got at Walmart made by a company called ION. It has a battery and is rechargeable. Lasts about 12 hours and mines has taken on quite a bit of water with no problems. Recharge at night and its plays all day has headphone jack and Iphone connector built in. was $150 I think.

Have you considered spa speakers? I have some on my boat that can be turned in any direction so we can easily her them while we are in the water. The disadvantages to this type of speaker is that the sound quality is diminished over my other speakers on the boat. Therefore, I am limited with how high I can turn up the radio going across the lake. I can easily hear them but the sound is a bit distorted for me and I do worry that one of my well meaning guests may turn the volume too high and blow my speakers.

I got one of these for about 80 bucks at best buy, looks like they were replaced by a newer model from the price (dont buy it on amazon)... It is rechargeable, holds a 4 hour charge and is water resistant. You can plug in the phone with USB, or you can use a wifi network and control it from wherever your phone is wirelessly... I love mine, you can hear it halfway across the sandbar, when the boat is running, or of course at the campfire when the day is done. I have a home theater that cost more than my car, and the sound is very decent, though it's very bass heavy for indoors, which is why it doesnt sound like tin outdoors:

I got my daughter a Sony bluetooth portable system..........The thing is very clear and loud. but think it was over 150 bucks, it can be hooked up via bluetooth or 3.5 aux.
It's a little tough to get quality sound from anything thats under 100 bucks.

If you happen to have a spare car stereo deck laying around you can make a cooler stereo......some folks get really crazy with them. just do a image search in google for DIY cooler stereo
