Recticfier problem

I think I might have a recticfier problem. My battery rests at 12.2 volts with motor off. At idle I still get 12.2 volts. I get no charging
I'm pretty sure my tach works, when I turn on my acc the tach pegs zero.
However when the motor is running the tach still sits at zero
Thanks,
Tom

Re: Recticfier problem

First, 12.2 volts is about 50% discharged, so put a full charge on that battery and try again.

I agree, the rectifier is suspect, but I wouldn't be ready to spend any money just yet, based only on the info you've provided. I'd want to know, does voltage increase with RPM's? I expect you have a voltage regulator so it probably would top out at 14 or 14 1/2.

Check the Engine FAQ section of iboats, there's a couple threads on rectifier tests.

Re: Recticfier problem

You really need to check voltage with the engine at 1500 - 2000 rpm. At idle it may be charging very little. With the static battery voltage at 12.2 it would take a bit of running to bring the voltage up so your test really is not valid unless you let the engine run at a fast idle for several minutes.
