If I can charge my batteries, doesn't that mean that my rectifier regulator is okay? What else can I check for non working tachometer?<br /><br />.... yes, the grey wire is properly hooked up.

If the engine has a water cooled regulator, and the gray wire is from regulator, the gray lead thru the regulator could be open, which means you have to change the regulator. You need about 8 volts with peak reading meter at the gray lead.
